Chris here…I wanted to talk to you today about how Nail Order can help you to grow your business and increase your profits during this difficult time.

 

Rewind to the start of lockdown and remember how much more time you had on your hands to think, worry, do stuff that you always wanted to do, lie-in, look forward to your one hour of daily exercise etc?? What did you do with your time?

 

We (Bekka and Chris) decided to go into our salon and do all the stuff needing done, the stuff we couldn’t normally do as the salon was open 7 days. We scrubbed every surface, painted every wall, moved electrics, built furniture etc and in that time we did some talking about where we see that salon going in the future. We talked a lot about retailing more, because we had an idea we weren’t going to be going back to the “old norm” any time soon.

 

I was asking Bekka about the mark up on each item we sold and she mentioned that the current supplier of cuticle oils had increased the price of the products by one third all while reducing the size by more than 20%!

 

As you can imagine, in a slightly less affluent area like ours, we could see this being a problem… we felt that our customers would be far less likely to buy the same product for more with less contents, regardless how good the product was.

 

So we set about finding suppliers in the UK who were both open and could help us develop our own cuticle oil. Our criteria was 4ml, Vegan and Cruelty Free, smells amazing, made in the UK and that we could sell it for the same price as we had been selling our previous products for in the salon. Turns out you need to buy a whole lot to get it at that price but then we started to think this might be a good thing to sell to other salons because they are going to be in the same boat as us. Having a need to retail to bolster profits but concerned about the growing costs of their current suppliers.

 

Then we added something to our criteria that I think sets us apart from other suppliers, how can that salon double their money on these? Our customer stopped being a general person off the street and became you, a salon owner, nail tech, beauty therapist or home therapist. In other words an expert. So the game just got harder, we need this to smell better than any other, moisturise and nourish better all whilst being a money maker for you guys.

  1. “Your lashes may not have needed infilled this week if you had a sleep mask, have you heard of them?” Customer is lying on a bed with nowhere to go. “Yeah, they are pretty cool, they have a concave eye piece that protects your lashes from crushing when you sleep, and some customer get a week extra before needing infills saving them money over the year. They are just £12, I’ll show you at the end”

 

  1. Instagram post, pick the best pic of the best nails from the week, holding a cuticle oil and just post “These nails are everything we need to achieve this winter, great nails can look awful if your cuticles are dry and cracked. Stay hydrated, DM me for a cuticle oil, they are just £6

 

As Nike says, “Just Do It.” If you want to forget the rest and start taking action, here are some recommendations for actions you could take today (and everyday) to help bolster your earnings:

  • Tell customers why you like it.
  • Tell customers why you think it will benefit them.
  • Promote products on your social media, as in every post.
  • In lockdown? Set up a $9 per month Shopify Account to sell through Instagram.

 

I hope some of these idea’s may help you grow your offering and help generate some extra cash in these uncertain times.
